Pussy Power – A Celebration Of Strong Women – Read Our Series Of Interviews
Join us as we celebrate strong women as part of our Pussy Power campaign.
Here we speak to Manal Waqi, a Founder and Editor In Chief of Amanqi, a digital platform dedicated to curating the finest of fashion, beauty and culture.
What gets you out of bed in the morning (and we don’t just mean coffee! Haha!)?
I make a to-do list each evening for the next day, and that truly brings a sense of purpose to each and every one of my days. Knowing that I have a lot to finish and accomplish motivates me to get out of bed on time and make small steps towards my goals (and a warm cup of tea on the side always helps).
Where does your strength and sense of purpose come from? e.g., were you brought up by strong family members/ do you have a strong group of friends.
I think my sense of purpose most certainly comes from my family (my parents & my sister, Amani), who always have an unwavering faith and belief in everything I do & ensure I always pursue my dreams and aspirations. They are most certainly the biggest support system in my life.
What are your goals/ do you strive to do each day when you get up in the morning?
I take each day as its own and focus on achieving the ‘to-do’ tasks for that day. My long term goal is to make The Amanqi Edit a successful digital media platform and I hope each daily small accomplishment contributes to the overall greater picture.
Who have been your inspirations throughout your life, and in what way?
My parents have been the biggest inspiration throughout my life. My father is the most incredibly courageous individual I know and his ‘can-do’ attitude and vibrant personality are characteristics I hope to imbibe in the future. My mother is the most loving and caring individual I know, and I’d love to be just as giving as her.
What achievements are you most proud of and why?
I wouldn’t say I’m most proud of a particular moment, but the entire The Amanqi Edit journey has been very fulfilling and I hope it continues to move forward this way. However, one memory that most certainly stands out is our first season of London Fashion Week last year; it was definitely incredible to see my name on the accredited press list.
What does the concept of Pussy Power mean to you?
I think in our world today, women are just capable of accomplishing anything and everything and Pussy Power is the celebration of the accomplishments of each and every incredible woman around us.
Do you feel that it’s important to support international woman’s day, and if not/yes what are your reasons?
I think International Woman’s Day is a great day to celebrate everything that women have achieved, however I do believe we shouldn’t limit this to one day, but rather ensure we celebrate and support the amazing women around us on a daily basis.
